Petrol Engines - New & Used Cars

The majority of people in developed countries drive new and used cars but very few actually know much about car engines. Internal combustion engines come into use about one hundred years ago and they quickly become widespread because they were reliable and much smaller then steam engines that were used to propel trains. Car engines use a mixture of fuel like petrol or diesel and gas which is air. The fuel and the air must be mixed at the right proportions. They are mixed when fuel is sprayed into an air stream. One the mixture enters a cylinder it is ignited and pushes down on a piston that drives a crankshaft. The design of petrol engines has undergone many improvements since its origins. Fuel consumption has been reduced and efficiency increased. Modern engines take up much less space than the older used versions which is very good for car designers because they can make lighter vehicles and designate more space for passengers rather than engines. It can be noticed by everyone who has ever compared used cars with brand new models. Petrol engines constantly evolve but at some point they will be irreversibly replaced by electric motors and so the used cars of the past will indeed be part of history.
